Dear knitters,
You know that kind of project you start “just to test the idea”… and end up completely losing yourself in it? That’s how VERA Scarf happened for me — a modern, sideways-knit triangle that celebrates the calm repetition of brioche knitting.
I wanted to create a triangular scarf that’s easy to wear — something light enough to wrap once around your neck, over or under a coat, without bulk or extra thickness. A piece that feels cozy and modern, with a smooth texture that runs horizontally, giving it a soft, fluid look and beautiful drape.
From there, the stitch pattern came naturally — a Brioche Rib that’s plush but not heavy, rhythmic but simple. There’s something almost meditative about the Brioche Rib stitch — the way it grows soft and squishy under your fingers, forming a fabric that’s light, stretchy, and beautifully reversible.
It’s a stitch that looks complex but feels soothing once you find its rhythm.

Simple Knitting, Beautiful Results
Brioche knitting has a special charm. The stitches are deep and plush, yet the fabric stays light — almost airy. What I love most is that both sides look the same, so your finished piece is completely reversible.
The stitch itself is wonderfully intuitive: once you understand the rhythm of slip, yarn over, brioche knit, it becomes a gentle flow that feels like breathing.
In VERA, there are no purl rows, no short rows, and no complex shaping — just calm, rhythmic knitting.
Even though it looks intricate, Brioche Rib is one of the most rewarding stitches to knit.
The movement is repetitive but never boring — and watching those elegant “V” columns form under your hands feels a little bit magical.
VERA scarf is designed to let that texture shine — no distractions, no fussy details.
Just smooth rhythm, graceful shaping, and the soothing comfort of soft yarn moving through your fingers.

VERA is worked sideways from tip to tip, shaped with easy increases and decreases on one edge only. This one-sided shaping forms those soft, chained horizontal lines that give the scarf its fluid, modern look.
It’s the kind of piece you’ll want to wear every day — over a sweater, tucked under a coat, or wrapped once around your neck for a relaxed, effortless style.
For my samples, I used DROPS Kid-Silk — two balls for the lighter version and a bit less (leftovers!) for the smaller gray one. It’s the perfect yarn for a delicate, floaty drape.
Of course, the size is fully adaptable — you can knit a larger version, use a different yarn weight, or mix leftover yarns from your stash for a unique texture and color play.

For Beginners & Brioche Lovers Alike
f you’ve never tried brioche before, the VERA Scarf is a wonderful place to start. The pattern is intuitive and soothing, with shaping that happens only on one side and edges that form graceful, chain-like lines.
What I love about the brioche stitch is how it looks intricate but feels so simple once you find its rhythm. Each row flows naturally into the next with just knits and yarn overs — no purls at all! The fabric grows with a soft, meditative pace, creating a texture that’s plush yet light.
Here’s something to keep in mind as you knit: each elongated stitch in a brioche knit column represents two worked rows. So when you count your “V”s, remember that every one stands for two passes of your needles. That’s what gives brioche its beautiful depth, stretch, and that irresistible squishy drape — the reason your finished Vera will feel so soft and luxurious.
To make things even easier, I filmed a YouTube tutorial that walks you through the basic brioche rib, plus the simple increase and decrease used in the pattern. You’ll find the rhythm quickly — and you might fall a little bit in love with brioche, too.
The VERA Scarf is all about texture, lightness, and that peaceful rhythm of brioche stitches flowing through your fingers — perfect for cozy autumn knitting and everyday wear.
It’s light and soft, easy to wear over or under outerwear without adding bulk. You can tie Vera at the front in a cozy “neckerchief” style, or wear it with the point to the back, bandana-style — both ways show off the brioche texture beautifully and give a modern, effortless touch to your look.
