A Summer Flutter – Butterfly Bandana Is Now Free! 🦋
From My Archive to Your Needles
Hi lovely knitters,
I’m popping in today with a little gift, bring out of the archives and into your summer projects. Some of you might remember my Butterfly Bandana, design from way back in 2013, is now available as a free pattern! Inspired by the delicate flutter of butterfly wings, it was one of the first accessories I created for my daughter when she was little. And this summer, with head scarfs making a big comeback, I thought it was the perfect time to give this one new life.
With head scarfs fluttering back into fashion, this sweet design feels more current than ever. And I have to admit, seeing this trend take off again brings me so much joy. There’s something timeless and comforting about a light headwrap catching the breeze—whether on a sandy beach, a garden stroll, or a toddler’s tiny head on a summer day.

About the design
The Butterfly Bandana is a lightweight and charming head accessory, perfect for sunny days and warm breezes. It’s worked seamlessly in one piece: you begin with a brim knitted in the round, and then move on to the body, which is worked flat. The butterfly “wings” are gently shaped with short rows, creating that beautiful, curved silhouette that gives the piece its name.
If working in the round isn’t your thing, don’t worry—you can also knit the brim flat. Just add a stitch at each end of your cast-on row and sew the little seam when you’re done. Either way, the result is just as lovely! There are no buttons or ties—just knit, shape, and wear.

The pattern includes sizes from Toddler to Adult, and is available in both English and French, so you can knit it for yourself, your little one, or as a heartfelt gift.
It’s a perfect one-skein project for warm days, gifting, or whenever you need a little something beautiful on your needles.

Free to flutter, free to knit — let her dance across your stitches 🦋
